Emily-Sonny-Carly Christmas!
”In a famliar scenario, Carly gets trapped in an elevator with
someone she has "issues" with. In this case, it is Emily, who
ends up admitting to Carly that she's falling in love with Sonny.
In the New York Daily News, Laura Wright explains,
"Carly doesn't really want to be with Sonny right now but she
doesn't want Emily to have Sonny either." Carly warns Emily that
she will end up either dead, or shattered, or in a Mental Ward.
She brings up the potential for discord between Jason and Sonny.
Laughing, Laura shares that, "In Carly's mind, everything has a
reason and a very good one! Any obstacle to Carly getting what
she wants, anyone going up against her, she wants gone. Right
or wrong. She's not claiming to be right, it's just how she is." .
They finally escape from the elevator, but Carly must return to
Rose Lawn for the holidays.
A child wishes for his mother to come home for Christmas,
and she magically appears. Emily grants Morgan's wish by
convincing Carly's doctors to release Carly now. Laura explains,
"It's funny, Emily tells them. 'Look, you can think what you want of
Carly, but this is who she is, and she's not going to get any better'.".
Carly swears to the doctors that she isn't volatile. Em interrupts
saying, yes you are-- but for you that's normal.
In an instance of perfect timing, Carly gets to Sonny's
just as Morgan makes his wish to have his mother home for
Christmas! She is just in time to "decorate the tree and have a
nice Christmas.".
"She's very appreciative of Emily in that moment, but the
next day Christmas is over and she's like, thanks for the good
deed, but stay away from Sonny."
In the Jamaica Gleaner, Natalia Livingston explains Emily's
perspective. "So much has happened to her." Helena was after
her, she was raped by Connor- then killed him, her marriage fell
apart...all of it has left her Emily wounded.
"Of course, what she should have done is get counseling", not doing
so, explains Natalia, "was a big mistake. Emily has always been
close to Sonny and loved to care for his children. And after a
while, she began to see him as more than a friend. Sonny's mob
connections make him a very powerful man. And for someone like
Emily, who has had to face so much, I believe she sees Sonny as a
man whose power would protect her."
Alright, which one of you called?
And, of course, with power being the most potent aphrodesiac, it's
no wonder Emily felt that she was in love with him. But is she in love
with Sonny, or is Nikolas still the man who has her heart? "I think she
and Nikolas will always have a connection," says Natalia.
(Hmmmm...where have we heard that line before?)
Carly's growing awareness of Emily's feelings for Sonny has
brought out Carly's strong streak of possessiveness. Like Emily,
who worried that Courtney would displace her as Nikolas'
great love, Carly fears Emily might not be "just another woman"
in Sonny's life, but will take her place as THE woman.”
